About Us
Golden Records is Berkeley’s premier music production and industry club. We are a microcosm of the music industry with passionate students involved in everything from marketing, A&R, and media to hands-on music production, audio engineering and DJing. We offer a fulfilling professional, social, and creative environment for our members and the Berkeley community of music enthusiasts.
The Tunnel
GR’s flagship rave event - brings in around 200 students every semester all passionate about underground and unique music to listen to student DJ’s perform. Functions as our main source of revenue. Around ~$1.2K in profit per event.
Music Production Decal
A class run by experienced producers in GR with the goal of teaching aspiring music producers essential skills for their development. Interest form brought in ~100 signups, class taught over 14 weeks with all students submitting final projects. Taught from a math-oriented signal processing perspective - a technical look at music production.
Band Nights
This year we branched out into the production of live music. Our shows have a regular attendance of over 150, with most being charity events benefiting organizations such as the Luekiama and Lymphoma Society. We now have created spaces for local artists to show off not only their electronic music skills but their instrumental talents as well.
EMPIRE/She’s Write Camps:
Ongoing partnership with EMPIRE in SF to encourage female participation and success in the music industry. Brings 20-30 female-identifying students to the EMPIRE studio and allows for impactful networking opportunities and exposure to both the technical, business, and marketing sides of the music industry through workshops with professionals. Projected to grow significantly moving forward.
Beat Battles
Functioning as GR’s regular meetings, beat battles allow student producers to share music they have made around a particular theme set by the club biweekly. Beat battles are a creative space for self-expression and the best submissions are selected for release on compilation albums at the end of each year. ~20 submissions per battle.
